These are the issues I’ll be focused on as your council member. Here’s where I stand:
Public Safety
- Carrollton’s largest budget item, I fully support our police and fire departments with the staffing, equipment, and training they need to keep every neighborhood safe.
- We need to be sure that every fire station is equipped with an ambulance and the crew to staff them.
- We need to plan now to fully staff the new Fire Station 9 that will likely be built within the next five years to decrease response times to the residents and businesses in the middle of our city.
- We need adequate staffing to reduce the reliance on mandatory overtime which can be disruptive to the lives of our public safety personnel.
- Flock Cameras – While I support the use of this investigative crime-fighting tool, Carrollton needs to perform regular audits of those partner agencies that can query our data to ensure that our high standards are implemented in every jurisdiction that has access to our data.
Infrastructure
- Carrollton has made gains in addressing infrastructure concerns, especially in the past six years. We need to maintain that momentum so that we are repairing and replacing infrastructure faster than it is failing.
- Continue funding the RISE residential infrastructure program which replaced the NOTICE neighborhood infrastructure program. This will help prioritize and direct Public Works funding to the neighborhoods with the greatest infrastructure needs.
- Improve communication with residents regarding the need for and benefits of the new stormwater fee.
- Continue utilizing technology, best practices, and CIPAC recommendations to help prioritize where we can get the biggest bang for our infrastructure dollars. For example, we need to review the benefits and liabilities of using asphalt overlays on some of our arterial streets such as Hebron Pkwy.
Amenities
- Continue offering a robust assortment of amenities and programming that serve our residents’ needs, keeps Carrollton competitive, attractive, and the place that families and businesses want to call home.
- Expand our hike and bike trail system to provide connectivity to the regional Veloweb trail system and the 26.2-mile Cotton Belt Trail that is under construction and runs mostly parallel to the DART Silver Line.
- Support and modernize our ever-evolving libraries to keep them relevant and a great resource and educational hub for Carrollton’s residents and children.
- Promote the expansion of the recreational facilities in Carrollton’s southern sector. The Crosby rec center is too small and poorly located to properly serve our South Carrollton residents.
Government
- Transparency – Council and administration decisions shouldn’t be mysteries. I’ll fight for more open communication, less reliance on the consent agenda and executive sessions, and the use of public information and listening sessions to be held BEFORE high impact or controversial decisions are made.
- Courage on Council – It takes a certain amount of courage and resolve to oppose the majority on Council and to vigorously advocate for Carrollton’s stakeholders when one sees decisions coming down the pipeline that are not in Carrollton’s best interest. As my record on Council shows, I will exemplify that courage and tenacity, I will fight for Carrollton, and I will not be afraid to oppose my peers on Council when I deem it necessary.
- Economic Development – In recent years Carrollton has over invested in projects whose benefits were oversold to Council. I commit to being a better steward of your tax dollars and will not wantonly give your money away to developers when the ROI doesn’t support the rapid repayment of that investment.
